100-year-old Hardware Salesman
Home Depot's oldest employee puts in 20 hours a week at the retailer's Windsor, Ontario, store
For the past 23 years, David Frank—Davey to his co-workers—has worked at the Home Depot in Windsor, Ontario. Believed to be the retailer’s oldest employee at 100, Frank works in the store’s hardware department, which consists of about seven aisles.
His store threw him a big birthday party in November, and plenty of family, friends and co-workers showed up to mark the milestone.
“I love retail, and I love meeting people and solving their problems, whatever they are,” Frank told the Detroit Jewish News. “Everybody’s just so great, and I’m happy to do it.”
While Mom & Pop Hardware is dedicated to independent hardware stores, it also celebrates knowledgeable sales clerks like David Frank, who make life a little easier for DIYers.
Home Depot employs approximately 500,000 associates across its 2,298 stores, according to the company. And about 90% of store leadership began their careers as hourly associates.
